A Stay at Midgardur by Center Hotels, Reykjavik
I recently returned from another incredible trip to Iceland, my absolute favorite country. I’m always amazed by its stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and unforgettable adventures.
During this visit, I stayed at a Center Hotel, a family-owned chain with several locations throughout Reykjavik. This is now my fourth time booking a stay with a Center Hotel. I love staying at Center Hotels because they consistently offer excellent accommodations. The rooms, service, and facilities are always clean, and the staff are warm, helpful, and professional.

I booked a few nights at Midgardur by Center Hotels. It’s located on Laugavegur street, the best spot to be in downtown Reykjavik. The street starches far into the city centre you’ll find many restaurants, shops and bars along the way.
Why stay at Midgardur by Center Hotels?
Check in was nice and quick at Midgardur by Center Hotels. They have a great team of people at reception who are happy to help with anything. I dropped off my bags and left to go explore Reykjavik. It was that quick. If you need a taxi to go into town the team can call a local taxi company. I got a taxi called to take me to the Flyover Iceland experience. The venue is about 40 minutes walk from the hotel. A taxi ride takes just 20 minutes.

What are the rooms like at Midgardur by Center Hotels?
I booked a standard room, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. The room was spacious, modern, and spotlessly clean, with plenty of room for my belongings. This is something I always value when staying in a hotel.
The large windows were a lovely feature, offering a view of the garden and the outdoor hot tub area.

What is the Spa like?
My booking included spa access, which turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the stay. The spa area is beautifully designed, and the outdoor hot tub overlooking the garden created a serene atmosphere. Towels and slippers are provided in the changing rooms. You can order drinks from the spa reception. Or if you want to do some workouts there is a small gym by the entry doors. There are a couple of rooms used for treatments and an outdoor tub. It was such a treat to unwind here after walking around the city all day.

What is the food like at Midgardur by Center Hotels?
Although the hotel offers breakfast. I chose to skip it since I preferred to head out early each morning to explore. But the dining area looked inviting and cozy, and next time I visit, I’ll definitely give the breakfast a try.

One of the best things about Midgardur by Center Hotels is its great location. Situated right on Laugavegur Street, the hotel is a short walk to all the hot spots. Skólavörðustígur (rainbow street) is a good 20 minutes walk. There’s even a supermarket just two minutes walk away, perfect for grabbing snacks or essentials.

What bus stop is next to Midgardur by Center Hotels?
Bus stop 13 is outside the hotel. Many bus tour companies stop there for pick-ups and drop off. I booked the Northern Lights bus tour with coco. It was the best tour I’ve ever been on. On the night of the tour I was picked up from bus 13.The tour guide, Michael, drove us out of Reykjavik and into the countryside. He stopped at two different locations, but the Northern Lights were still nowhere in sight. Despite this, he remained optimistic.
Michael was incredibly knowledgeable about the aurora borealis and even used an app to track their activity. Relying on the data, he took us to a third location east of Iceland. The most incredible thing happened as we arrived. The Northern lights danced above us along with the brightest stars I’ve ever seen. It was a dream come true to see them. If the Northern lights are on your bucket list I recommend this tour. Seeing the Northern Lights is not guaranteed and if you don’t see them your ticket is valid for 3 years.
Photos of the Northern Lights taken on my phone.
