I’ve been to Iceland twice now and it’s one of my favourite countries in the world. I love nature and being in Iceland feels like paradise with its stunning wild nature. It’s like being on another planet. You’ve got to see it yourself.
If you’re planning your adventure to Iceland and looking for where to stay?. I know the best areas to stay in Reykjavik. That are a great base whether you stay in Reykjavik or just make a quick stop off.
How many days do you need in Reykjavik?
I have stayed in Reykjavik for the duration of my trips. But, if I were exploring other areas of Iceland, I would stay in Reykjavik for 1 to 3 days. This is enough time to visit museums and take day tours, like the Golden Circle or go whale watching.

What is the best area to stay in Reykjavik?
I recommend you stay downtown in Midborg or Laugavegur. Both areas are within walking distance to Skólavörðustígur where you’ll see the popular rainbow street.

Grandi by Center hotels
During my stay in Reykjavik I stayed at Grandi by Center Hotels for a couple of nights. Gandi has a luxury and cozy vibe with spa facilities. I was happy to stay here and use their spa especially after a long day of exploring.
Rooms are spacious and clean. I loved the minimal Icelandic decor and large windows, making the room bright and airy. The bathroom had frosty sliding doors with plenty of space to move around. My room faced the main street and promised a good night sleep. The double-glazed windows are very good at blocking outside noise.
The hotel features a dining area, bar, co-working space and lots of lounge areas with comfortable sofas.
The Spa facilities are kept spotlessly clean and sometimes fairly empty. Upon check-in at reception, you can book a time slot to use the Spa. I found mornings a good time to use the spa. Late evenings are also suitable as guests are either out for dinner.

Center Hotels Plaza
Center Hotels Plaza. is opposite Ingólfstorg Square in Reykjavik’s downtown. This area is more busy with tourists since it’s centrally located. I didn’t create content at the hotel as I wanted to fully enjoy my stay. Trust me, it was just as wonderful as Grandi by Center Hotels. There are many pubs and restaurants in this area so it’s more lively. There’s a mini supermarket next door to Center Hotels Plaza perfect for doing food shopping.

Center Hotels Laugavegar
Out of the three Center Hotels Hotels Laugavegar is my favorite. I loved the ambiance from the moment I walked into reception. The aesthetic was spot on. My room was so nice, comfortable and cosy. I loved the big bathroom with extra mirror lights. Although it was busy in the day with guests arriving and checking-out, it had a relaxed vibe. It’s one of those hotels where you can chill in the lounge area for hours. The hotel is in a great location too, right on Laugavegar street.
