Some places don’t just offer a night away—they offer a pause from everyday life. Wotton House Country Hotel, gave me just that and it was everything I didn’t know I needed. It’s one of the best country hotels in Surrey and a popular choice for Wedding venues. With its great spa facilities, beautiful country walks, and a menu full of delicious food. Plus a delightful afternoon tea experience. This countryside retreat truly delivered, and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Christmas at Wotton House Country Estate Hotel

Hidden near the charming town of Dorking in Surrey, the journey itself sets the mood. Quiet, winding lanes open up to reveal the hotel’s grand, historic façade. Wotton House is steeped in history the second you see it, but still inviting rather than imposing.

The Reception

From the moment I got out of the taxi and walked up the stairs. The double doors opened to the lobby which perfectly blends the hotel’s historic country house charm. High ceilings, soft lighting, and hints of country-house style made it feel inviting from the start.

The Room

My room was bright, cosy, with huge windows and a high ceiling. Neutral tones, plush bedding, plenty of natural light, and modern amenities made it easy to settle in.

The view over the expansive grounds was a highlight. On a quiet morning, it’s the kind of scene that makes you breathe a little deeper. Whilst sipping coffee from a well stocked tea tray.

The bathroom was spotless and well-equipped, with fluffy towels, quality toiletries, and a generous tea and coffee setup. Stacked with plenty of biscuits to go with my tea.

The Grounds

One of the things Wotton House is most famous for is its stunning gardens. And they truly are a highlight. Perfect lawns, woodland pathways and beautiful old stone structures create an atmosphere that feels both romantic and serene.

The hotel makes a great wedding venue. It has halls and lots of space on the grounds for weddings. I can confirm Wotton House has some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces I’ve seen.

Dining

Dinner at the hotel restaurant was a lovely experience. The dishes were cooked well, beautifully presented, and made with fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the service attentive without being intrusive.

Why you should book an afternoon tea

One of the highlights of my stay, aside from spending plenty of time in the spa, was the afternoon tea. I was seated in an elegant tea room and served a selection of savoury sandwiches and warm sausage rolls. Then came the sweet treats. Freshly baked scones and delicate cakes, all perfectly made to tickle my taste buds.

Breakfast the next morning was equally satisfying, with a generous buffet offering everything. From cooked options to pastries, fruit, and excellent coffee. A great start to the day.

Price & Deals

An overnight stay starts at £113 in a standard double room. This is a great bargain for such a grand place like this. For up-to-date prices, check out Booking.com, who often have fantastic deals. I’ve checked myself, and they really do offer some of the best rates available.
