Planning an Iceland 3 day itinerary can feel overwhelming, but these day tours from Reykjavik are perfect. I recommend day tours with Get Your Guide or Viator they arrange and organise the tours, so you don’t have to.

Of course there are many other tour companies offering excursions, which can feel overwhelming. But the best tour operators I always use are GetYourGuide and Viator. They work with thousands of tour companies offering excursions, and local tour guides all over the world. You’ll find many discounted tours and tickets on their websites. They’re fantastic, and efficient I can’t recommend them enough!.

Booking on their websites is simple. Type the destination you are going to. You’ll get every tour and ticket available for that destination. Choose the tours you want and book.

Best day tours from Reykjavik

Day 1. Explore the Golden Circle and Kerid Crater Volcanic Lake

The most popular day tour from Reykjavik for first timers is Golden Circle, which you can book with GETYOURGUIDE. It’s an 8-hour bus tour from Reykjavik. The tour stops at the Geysir area, Gullfoss Waterfall, and Þingvellir National Park. Your tour guide might even stop at a horse farm along the way.

The Highlights

  • See spray of the Gullfoss Waterfall.
  • See the volcanic crater at Kerið, and walk around it.
  • See where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
  • Discover the southwest of Iceland’s waterfalls, lakes and geysers
  • A stop for lunch at Geysir centre for food and souvenirs.

Here are a few things to keep in mind about the tour. The stops are few and short as tour guides need to stay on schedule. So, best to be quick if you need a bathroom break or want to grab something to eat. Aside from that, the tour is amazing. From start to finish. The guide and driver do an excellent job; they are skilled and highly trained to handle harsh weather conditions. The guide who provides the commentary is very knowledgeable. You learn a lot about the history and culture of Iceland along the way.

Day 2. Do a Glacier Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling on Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second-largest glacier is an amazing experience. Out of the two tours Golden Circle and Kerid Carter, Snowmobiling is the most unforgettable adventure. Picture yourself gliding across a glacier, surrounded by endless stretches of white snow and towering ice formations. The cold wind brushes against your face, and the world around you feels so vast and peaceful, it’s truly magical.

If you’re hesitant about the price, I can guarantee the experience is like no other. It’s truly out of this world. If you’re planning to do any tours during your trip to Iceland, do not miss this tour.

Day 3. Explore West Iceland with The Snæfellsnes Peninsula Day Tour

See lava fields, black sand beaches, and charming villages. This was by far my favorite tour. It is slightly longer than the Golden Circle tour. The tour lasts 12 hours as you travel through stunning wilderness. You will visit quaint villages, some of which are off the beaten path. This tour is with a small group of people and the guide who is also the driver.

They do a brilliant job driving long distances. They stop at unplanned locations. This lets you see more of Iceland’s breathtaking beauty. My guide was outstanding; she went above and beyond to give us the best experience. I especially admired her for driving in blizzard conditions, managing snowy weather and roads with no streetlights. All in all, we returned to Reykjavik safely, and she even dropped us off right outside our hotels.

The Highlights

  • See views of views of mount Kirkjufell and the Snæfellsnes Glacier
  • Visit mystical black sands of Djúpalónssandur beach
  • Explore Arnarstapi, a charming fishing village.
  • See seals at Ytri Tunga beach
  • Visit the small black church
  • Visit hidden gems
