48 Hours in Montmartre: A Guide to Paris’s Best Hidden Gems
April 27, 2026/
Montmartre is a historic district with a rich artistic history and hilly cobblestone streets. Located in the 18th Arrondissement, it’s easy to see why I’m obsessed with this corner of the city—it truly feels like a world apart from the rest of Paris. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. However, I always find myself drawn back to stay and explore its magic. Here’s what to see and do in 48 hours in Montmartre.

Boutique Hotels in the 9th Arrondissement
Hotel Fior d’ Aliza
Hotel Fior d’Aliza is a lovely boutique hotel in a fantastic location. It is within walking distance of everything from the famous Rue des Martyrs market street to Galeries Lafayette. You can also walk to Palais Garnier and Sacré-Cœur from here.
The decor is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious and clean. I booked a Standard Double Room, which was quite spacious for one person and perfect for solo travelers. However, if you are traveling as a couple, I recommend booking a Superior Double Room for the extra space. The front desk staff were nice and attentive and met my requests. For instance, when I asked for a room with a city view and got it. I also called for an iron, it was delivered to my room within two minutes!
New Hotel Lafayette
As a travel writer, I usually stay at a variety of hotels to get a feel for different properties and provide honest recommendations to my readers. I almost never stay at the same hotel twice. However, New Hotel Lafayette is one of my favorite finds in the 9th arrondissement.
I always book a stay here when I’m in Paris and want to be close to Montmartre (located in the 18th). What keeps bringing me back is the genuine hospitality of the friendly staff and the impeccable cleanliness of the rooms. I’ve stayed here three times now. That’s the most I’ve ever returned to a single hotel!
Market Culture on Rue des Martyrs
Rue des Martyrs is a vibrant market street lined with Parisian shops like boulangeries, fromageries, and pâtisseries. It truly feels like the heart of Montmartre. Walking here makes you feel like a part of the local culture.
Fromagerie
Browse the local independent shops, such as Fromagerie Chataigner. A true haven for cheese lovers, this is the place to talk to experts who can guide you through their selection of succulent, delicious cheeses. Everything is locally sourced from French farmers. Be sure to try the Comté, a firm favorite among the locals. Buy some authentic French fromage for a picnic near the Sacré-Cœur.
cheese, cheese, cheese!
Boulangerie
Just around the corner from Rue des Martyrs lies one of my favorite bakeries in Montmartre: BoulangerieMamiche. Located at the end of Rue Condorcet, this family-owned business is incredibly popular, so expect a bit of a queue! Their pastries and baguettes are seriously delicious, and their croissants are truly amazing.

Museums in Montmartre
MuséedeMontmartre: A true gem in the heart of this charming district, this museum is a must-visit for those looking to escape the busy crowds. Stepping through its doors brings a sense of calm and a slower pace of life. The site features the oldest house in Montmartre, rich with local history and fascinating exhibitions. The gardens are beautifully maintained, offering a lovely courtyard cafe to enjoy a drink. On the other side of the house, you’ll find another garden boasting stunning, elevated views of Montmartre.
One of the best things to do in a new city is a walking tour with a local guide. I’ve done dozens of these, and this one in Montmartre is fantastic. It’s affordable, fun, and packed with interesting facts about this charming village.
Gailcafe is one of my favorite cafes in Montmartre. It’s super cute and cozy, and they serve some of the best coffee, chai lattes, and stuffed croissants in the area.

Final Thoughts
Between the cozy cafes and the historic charm, Montmartre remains my favorite corner of Paris. While 48 hours is a whirlwind, staying nearby in the 9th Arrondissement gives you the perfect balance of local life and iconic sights. Pack your walking shoes, bring your appetite for amazing croissants, and get ready to experience the magic of the 18th!.
