How to use public transport in Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca is a stunning Spanish island steeped in history, surrounded by gorgeous crystal clear beaches and charming villages.

If you’re heading to Mallorca and prefer to take public transport here’s a quick guide on the local bus TIB. TIB buses are red and yellow, run frequently, equipped with aircon and charging sockets. The best part is they are cheap and you can use them to get around Palma de Mallorca.

Types of bus tickets and fares in Mallorca

  • You can get around the island for as little as €1.80 per ride.
  • You can buy a Única Card and use it on TIB buses, FM trains metro, and EMT Palma buses. Make sure to validate the card upon boarding the buses or entering train stations. You can then top it up. The currency is Euros only.
  • To get the Única card check out the TIB website for details.
  • A contactless card, or debit card can be used to board the TIB buses without purchasing a ticket. Just tap the ticket machine with your debit card as you board the bus.
  • A single ticket purchased on the bus costs more (€3.00 one way) and needs to be paid in cash only. Avoid this and use a debit card if you can.

Bus stops in Palma de Mallorca

Local buses are easy to navigate once you know where you want to go. You also need to know where the bus stops are. Bus stops are marked with numbers so make sure to stand at the correct stop. It’s best to check the location on google maps. There you get information on bus routes and times. You can also check the timetables for TIB busses on their website .

Boarding the TIB bus

Upon boarding the bus, if you’re using a contactless card/debit card, you just tap your bank card on the reader machine. Remember to tap out with your contactless card/ debit card before you get off the bus. If you don’t tap out you’ll be charged an extra 30 cents on top of your fare.

If you prefer not to take the local busses and want to hire a car. Check fares on DISCOVER CARS. They have great discounts on car hire.

Using the public transport in Palma de Mallorca is very easy. So, enjoy the rides. Have a great holiday.

Where to stay in Palma de Mallorca

Port de Pollenca

The best hotel to stay in Port de Pollenca has got to be Hotel Eolo. I loved the location, the service, food and how close it was to everything. Right in the hub of restaurants, shops and close to the port for boat day tours. The hotel features a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the island.

Palma city

If I were to visit Palma again I’d stay at INNSiDE by Meliá Palma Bosque. The location is perfect, just 20 minutes walk to center of Palma city. The hotel has everything you can think of in terms of 3 pools, spa, gym etc. Balcony rooms facing the pool area or city views. The fantastic buffet breakfast and food options at lunch or dinner time.
